Meadowbank- Hobart

 








Meadowbank- my favourite dining experience when in Hobart

This is a fine dining experience- with magnificent views of the river and the vines of the vineyard.  A must do for any visitor to Hobart - being a  20 min drive from the town centre on the way to Richmond.  I like to come here with my mum and sisters.. A great venue for Weddings also.  There is a little gift shop, a gallery upstairs with the famous artist Tom Samek - as well as cellar door tastings.  A must is the Mardi Sparkling...

Entree:
Zuccini blossoms, prawn mousseline in a ginger butter sauce
Tartare of ocean Trout, horseraddish cream, citrus

Mai:n:
Pan roasted blue eye trevella, mussels, tomato and champagne dressing
Loin of Bruny Island Hare, spice centred jus
Slow braised Belbin Farm Lamb, onion puree, garlic and rosemary jus

Sides:
Duck-fat rosated potatoes, rosemary and salt
Buttered beans
Seasonal salad greens
Bread with Olive Tampenade

Dessert: 
Raspberry Souffle
Coffee and Chocolate panacotta
Home made truffles

Tricycle- Salamanca, Hobart




TRIcycle

This little rustic cafe out the back of salamanca's sandstone buildings has a cosy homely feel to it.  Starting with the black and white photos of tricycles on the wall- to the waitresses wearing denim dresses with old fashioned good service... this is great place for breakfast.

I recommend you look at the specials of course- today's was raspberry stuffed French Toast

Above you see: Sourdough with smashed avocado, feta and lemon and home made chilli beans on sourdough toast.

The tap water bottles comes with a large sprig of mint and the freshly squeezed OJ is also delicious.

Overall a pleasant breakfast Cafe to dine in.

Price: Reasonable.

What a gerogeous little place to have a light 'tappas' type luncheon with your girlfriends!!

We sat in the courtyard with the sun beaming down on us with friendly and very attentive wait staff.

Starting with a sparling Rose, our meal and the whole experience was wonderful..

The meals start at $4 and range from $10 to $20 to share platters of $40 (including a whole chicken!)

We started with pork belly, squid with garlic and potato, carrot and sesame/honey salad, pinkeyes fresh from the garden, fish croquettes and the list goes on...Sardines, Lamb, Calamari...

Our hightlight was when the Hot Chocolate arrived with a side shot of coffee, a paper hand wrapped  tied with string chocolate ganache and hot milk in a brown medicinal like bottle.  I can also recommend their desserts- pear with pine nuts, chocolate icecream and a panacotta like concoction. 

Wine LIST:
Tasmanian as well as NZ wines- and can recommend the Craigow (Tas) Sticky wine for dessert!

Overall a quaint and tasty little place to dine out.  They also do delicious Macaroons and hand made chocolates, as well as mirangues!

Price:  Reasonable.

KazBah - Middle Eastern/ African Feast!





KazBah- AKA Middle Eastern/ African Feast

This place is super popular and does great breakfasts and lunches!

I tried the Balmain AND the Darling Harbour locations- and there is a Top Ryde restaurant also going!

It's middle east fusion with north african food and the decor is amazing! Service is also great.

Do try: 

The Tagines (any)- superbly authentic, the Camel Shish for thosewho are daring, Chorizo stuffed calmari- my favourite and the assortment of Dips (hommus, babaganoush, carrot, beetroot, tzatsiki) and you won't go wrong... Lamb cutlets... Sft shell crab....

The Wine list is extensive, as is the Dessert list!

A MUST TRY!!

Excelsior/ EL Loco - 64 Foveaux Surry Hills Mexicana

Now this place is brand new (there was a guy painting the menu wen we were having dinner) that has a  vibrant and fun atmophere

The drinks are great - must try the jalepeno margarita!  No sangria unfortunately.

Food wise: not so good.  Coming from a mexican restaurant background- I can say honestly if you are looking for authentic mexican food- then look somewhere else. 

The menu is small- comprising of a tofu salad, tacos, fish sandwich, hamburger (not mexican at all?!) and chips and salsa/ guacamole.

Go there for lunch or for snacks with a margarita but don't plan on a good night of food there.

What a lovely trendy restaurant found in the heart of Slamanaca next door to the Salmon and goodie shop..

Plus:
A wide selection of Wines, ciders and beers..
A Wide selection of nibblies, mains etc

Upons sitting down you are presented with lovely sourdough bread with olive oil and balsamic vinegar.

Mains include Gourmet Pizzas, salmon and seafood dishes, or the above Duck dish which was superb!
Favourite Dish: BOlognaise Arancini Balls!!!
Try a Tassie Wine and a Dessert- delicious!

This place is Roti heaven!  Watch them making the roti from the window as you line up - always a line but quick in and out service.

I Recommend:

Any of the satays, curries and savoury and sweet Roti.

Love this place- no need to book but it is popular.  There is upstairs as well if need be.  Service is quick and it's loud and busy!

BloodWood- Newtown





BloodWood!This is a cute little hideaway place in Newtown, in between Newtown and St Peters Station.
The alcoholic beverage list is extensive and we tried this Spanish Red Wine and it was perfectly matched to the food and ambience...Need to book on the weekend otherwise its a 2 hour wait!

Mains;
Olives in olive oil
Soy and sesame glazed chicken wings
Chickpea pizza with fetta, basil and tomatoes
Pork and prawn wrapped in bean curd skin with sweet sauce

Signorelli Gastronomia- Pyrmont

The Gastronomia has been devised by Paul Signorelli and his sisters, Anna Cesarano and Nina Milazzo, as homage to their late father, the pioneering greengrocer and hospitality entrepreneur, Biaggio Signorelli. It's a salumeria, gourmet foodstore, wine shop, cheese shop, pizzeria, antipasto bar, cooking school and trattoria all rolled into one.

It is open for lunch and dinner- there is an open wood fired pizza station and the atmosphere is just beautiful.  Service is great.  The cheese and wine rooms a must!

Figs with Proscuito
Gorganzola stuffed Zuccini Flowers

Rabbit!  I'd not had rabbit before and this was tender and delicious in a tomato and cheese sauce

This is a little hole in the wall- well upstairs, and well worth a visit when in China Town.
Great Menu to choose from.  The outlook is over Paddys Markets and the light rail and we sat at the window.

I went with all intentions to have the Noodle Soup / Ramen- and ordered the Spicy Ramen and yes it is spicy, tasty and filling.

The first dish is called Gekikara with pork and you add your noodles into the pork broth.. very nice indeed.

Drinks:
The drinks menu is extensive- with Great Japanese beers, Plum wine, chardonnay and reds, special mocktails and softdrinks.

It is also BYO and the service is great too.
