Another night out in the Can!
This restaurant is literally housed in a Slab Hut- dating back 120 years! Lovely old style feel about it- a fireplace and cosiness that would be beautiful to experience in the Winter months... Now there are new chefs that have just taken over in the past 3 weeks- apparently 2 mothers who just love cooking!
Entree:
Roasted apricots and blue vein cheese tossed through a roquette salad with a honey balsamic dressing- the blue vein cheese wasn't overbearing however I do like a good overbearing blue cheese..
Slithers of oven baked lamb backstrap placed above fire red roasted capsicum and caperberry cous cous drizzled with a balsamic reduction- the lamb was perfectly cooked being rare in the middle and the balsamic complimented the couscous beautifully...
Main:
Oven roasted kiev style chicken breast wrapped around smoked salmon mousse with a dollop of hollandaise sauce- this reminded me of Eggs Benedict on a weekend brunch so I did enjoy tasting this one..
Now I just had to try the Venison- not normally my favourite but..
Venison medallions sided by crushed garden peas and roasted baby beetroot accompanied by a red wine jus..- this was beautiful but filling! Loved it.
Wine Time:
We tried a Pinot Gris from Sth Eastern Australia as their wine Menu wasn't up to scratch in the white selection (no Marlborough Sav Blancs I'm afraid) but a lovely bottle anyway!
Dessert:
We tried to bypass the Brandysnap basket, sticky date cheesecake and lime tart and settled on a glass of Port. We were given a box of home made chocolates on departure- how cute!!
